On July 17, 2026, Bethesda Game Studios confirmed in a studio letter that remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in development, but it gave no release dates. GamesRadar quotes the post as saying that, while it was not announcing any dates, “we have been working on remasters for both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.” The letter also covered Fallout 5, a new Obsidian Fallout game and The Elder Scrolls VI.

Checked October 16, 2026 against press reports of Bethesda’s letter and re-checked on October 21, 2026. We found no newer announcement of dates or platforms. Bethesda’s own post was not opened.

KitGuru reports that none of these projects has a release date, and that Bethesda teased a special Fallout Day event in Washington next year. Washington is the setting of Fallout 3, so KitGuru expects an announcement then, which is its own guess, not something Bethesda said.

The context around the announcement

Thurrott says the letter came after the latest round of layoffs hit Microsoft’s Xbox division. Game Informer says the Fallout 3 remaster was previously leaked in court documents in 2023. GamesRadar notes that the remasters had been heavily requested and rumored since The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered in 2025, and that this was the first time Bethesda had said outright that they are happening.

On who is making what: Fallout 3 was Bethesda’s first game in the series, and New Vegas was made by Obsidian Entertainment, according to GamesRadar. Reports say Josh Sawyer, the New Vegas director, is directing Obsidian’s new game, but Gfinity describes this as reported, not confirmed by Bethesda.
