How to Choose the Best RTX 50 Series GPU for 1440p Gaming
For 1440p, the RTX 50 Series question mostly comes down to VRAM and budget. TechSpot’s testing concluded that 12GB is the bare minimum for 1440p and 16GB the ideal target, and the RTX 50 lineup spans 8GB to 32GB. This guide maps the cards to that guidance and does not rank them by frame rates, which we did not test.

Start with VRAM
TechSpot’s July 2024 test found more games using over 8GB at 1440p with high-quality settings. It called 12GB the bare minimum and 16GB the ideal target. Our VRAM explainer covers the reasoning in more detail.

Capacity is not the whole story, because the 128-bit cards have a narrower memory bus than the 192-bit RTX 5070. That is a reason to look at reviews of the specific card you plan to buy.
Picking a tier
- Best fit on VRAM alone for 1440p with headroom: the RTX 5070 Ti or RTX 5080, which both have 16GB.
- The cheapest card that meets TechSpot’s minimum: the RTX 5070 at 12GB.
- A lower-cost 1440p attempt: the RTX 5060 Ti 16GB has the capacity but a 128-bit bus. The 8GB version falls below the minimum, so avoid it for 1440p at high settings.
- The RTX 5090: its 32GB is more than the 1440p guidance asks for, so buy it for 4K or other uses, not for VRAM at 1440p.
DLSS on RTX 50 cards
Nvidia’s pages describe Multi Frame Generation and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation as part of the DLSS suite, with DLSS 5 added in 2026. DLSS 5’s neural rendering is currently limited to RTX 50 Series cards, RTX Spark laptops and GeForce NOW, and only a few games support it so far. See our DLSS 5 explainer for the current list.

Match your choice to your monitor and games rather than to a model number. Check current prices, since the figures above are launch prices from 2025, and read reviews for the specific card, because manufacturers’ versions differ.
