Deleting your Samsung account removes the data tied to it, and Samsung Health is on that list. Samsung’s support page for the UAE says deleting an account removes your personal data and linked services such as Samsung Cloud, Samsung Pay and Samsung Health, and Android Police reports that the deleted information includes cloud storage, Samsung Health data and purchase history. The right backup depends on what you are doing: moving to a new Galaxy phone, keeping a personal archive, or leaving Samsung. This guide covers all three.

Samsung describes the download as a copy for your records. The pages checked describe restoring only through the Samsung Cloud backup, and none describes importing the downloaded files back into Samsung Health.

Transfer Samsung Health data to a new Galaxy phone, or restore after a reset: use Samsung Cloud

Samsung’s support page says you need a network connection and a Samsung account signed in with your health data synced to it. The page was last updated in 2022, so labels may have moved. The steps it gives:

  1. Open Samsung Health and tap the more options icon at the top right.
  2. Tap Settings, then tap your Samsung account.
  3. Scroll down and tap Samsung Cloud.
  4. Choose Back up data or Restore data, and pick what to include.

Back up on the old phone, then sign in with the same Samsung account on the new phone and choose Restore data.

Samsung Cloud is tied to your account. If you delete the account, the cloud copy goes with it, as the sources above describe. So this backup protects you when you change phones, not when you leave Samsung.

How to download your Samsung Health data

The download is in the Samsung Health app. Samsung’s Canada support page, updated July 24, 2026, gives these steps:

  1. Open Samsung Health and tap More options, the three vertical dots at the top right.
  2. Tap Settings, then scroll to Download personal data.
  3. Tap Download.
  4. Allow the permissions it asks for, and enter your Samsung account information when prompted.
  5. Wait for the download to finish, then tap OK.
  6. To find the files, open My Files, then Downloads, then the Samsung Health folder, and open the folder with your data.

Samsung’s US support page gives the same route and adds the warning that erasing your Samsung Health data permanently deletes everything on the phone or tablet, in the app and on the Samsung Health server.

What the download looks like

Samsung’s pages do not describe the file format. Third-party guides describe a folder of CSV files, one per data type, with names beginning with com.samsung.health or com.samsung.shealth, plus a folder of JSON files with finer readings, as in this walkthrough on Medium. A 2026 open-source project that reads these exports says the layout can vary by app version, locale and device. Some values are numeric codes. One converter project maps sleep stages 40001 to 40004 to awake, light, deep and REM. Expect to need a reference to read the files.

Moving to a non-Samsung phone: Health Connect

Health Connect is Android’s on-device store for health data. Android’s documentation says it is part of the Android system starting with Android 14, and a Play Store app on Android 13 and lower.

Samsung’s developer documentation says Samsung Health synchronizes with Health Connect in both directions. In Samsung Health, go to Settings, then Health Connect, and grant the permissions it asks for. The same page lists Sync with Samsung Cloud turned on as part of the settings. It was written in 2025, so check the labels on your phone.

Limits to know:

  • It is ongoing sync, not a one-time export. It shares data going forward.
  • A newly connected app sees only the last 30 days by default. Android’s documentation says apps can read data from up to 30 days before the first permission was granted, unless they request a separate history permission.
  • Not every Samsung metric is guaranteed to appear. The Samsung page includes a table mapping Samsung Health data to Health Connect data types. Check it for the metrics you care about.

Keep the downloaded archive too, since it is the copy of your full history.

Before you delete your account

  1. Back up with Samsung Cloud if you will keep using Samsung Health on another Galaxy phone.
  2. Download your personal data and keep it somewhere that is not your Samsung account.
  3. Open the Samsung Health folder in My Files and confirm the files are there and open.
  4. Connect Health Connect first if you are moving your tracking to another app.
  5. Treat the downloaded files as an archive. Samsung’s pages checked do not describe restoring from them.

If you are leaving Samsung and will stop signing in, note Samsung’s inactivity policy. Android Police reported that Samsung would delete accounts inactive for 24 months, with associated data, and would warn users first.
