September 2026 Pixel Drop: What’s New and Who Gets It
The September 2026 Pixel Drop is a small one. Google says it brings an updated Pixel VIPs widget, expanded chat Scam Detection, Pixel Watch improvements and Harry Potter themes. Android Authority describes it as essentially Android 17 QPR1 going stable for Pixel devices, with Pixel-specific features added on top. Google announced it on September 15, 2026, and several features depend on your Pixel model and country, so check what applies before looking for a setting that is not there.
What is in it
| Feature | What it does | Who gets it |
|---|---|---|
| Pixel VIPs widget | Call or text a contact with one tap from the home screen, switch contacts with a floating menu at the bottom, and see notification badges | Pixel 6 and newer, all regions and languages. Needs Pixel VIPs 2.0 and Google Contacts 4.77 or newer, per 9to5Google |
| Scam Detection in Gboard | Warns you about suspected scams. Google calls them inline Gboard warnings | The US only, Pixel 6 and newer, excluding the Pixel Tablet |
| Scam Detection for chat notifications | The existing feature expands to more regions | Pixel 6 and newer, excluding the Pixel Tablet |
| Pause Point | Adds a pause before you open a distracting app that you choose | Debuted on the Pixel 11 series, now coming to Pixel 6 and newer |
| Harry Potter Audiobook Packs | Wallpapers, icons and sounds, plus a two-month Audible free trial | Pixel 6 and newer, in select countries |
| Pixel Watch | Raise to Talk improvements and more one-handed gesture app integrations | See below |
The first two columns follow Google’s own post. Eligibility details come from Android Authority and 9to5Google. Pause Point is not in Google’s post or in Android Authority’s list of six features. It comes from 9to5Google, Thurrott and ytechb.
Where the sources differ
Gboard Scam Detection. 9to5Google says the “Likely scam” warning appears in the keyboard’s suggestion strip when you start typing a reply to a suspicious message, with processing on the device. Android Authority describes the feature as detecting scam messages that show up in notifications from other chat apps. It lists nine supported languages: English, Portuguese, German, Spanish, Arabic, French, Indonesian, Japanese and Korean. Google’s post only says “inline Gboard warnings in the U.S.”
Scam Detection expansion. Google says it covers chat app notifications in more regions. 9to5Google lists nine new countries (Australia, Canada, France, Germany, India, Japan, Mexico, Singapore and the United Kingdom) and six new languages (Arabic, French, German, Portuguese, Japanese and Spanish). Android Authority labels the same expansion as Scam Detection in Messages and lists ten countries in total, with the US added to those nine.
Pixel Watch. Android Authority says you can open and scroll the notification tray with a one-handed pinch gesture on the Pixel Watch 3 and newer, and that the Raise to Talk update applies to the Pixel Watch 4 and 5. 9to5Google lists the pinch gesture for the Pixel Watch 3 and 4, and the Raise to Talk model for the Pixel Watch 4.
The themes. 9to5Google and Digital Trends say three new Pixel Themes. Google and Android Authority call them Audiobook Packs. Android Authority says the packs are available in select countries including the US, UK, Canada and India until December 31, 2026.
How to get it
Pixel Drops arrive as automatic software updates. Thurrott quotes Google’s support site saying they send new and upgraded features to your phone. ytechb says the Drop features arrive without changing the build number. Android Authority says Google began rolling it out from September 15 to all currently supported Pixel phones, tablets and watches.
Open Settings, then System, then Software updates, and check for an update. Menu names may differ by Android version, and this path was not checked on a Pixel. Google’s post points to a community forum post for more details, which was not opened for this article.
Two things to keep in mind
- This is not the September Android Drop. Android Authority notes that the September Android Drop arrived earlier in the month and is a separate update.
- Security fixes ride along. Digital Trends reports the update addresses more than 100 security issues across the Android and Pixel bulletins. ytechb says the previous Pixel Drop was in June.
If you have a Pixel 6 or newer, the VIPs widget is the one change you will notice. If you are in the US, Gboard Scam Detection adds protection. Check your region before expecting the rest.
