Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X S. The 30 FPS target is widely reported but, in the sources we could find, not stated in an official Rockstar announcement, and no performance mode has been announced. This post separates what is confirmed from what is reported.

Checked October 20, 2026 against Wccftech, KeenGamer, Push Square and other reports. Rockstar can change details at any time, and we did not test the game.

What is confirmed

The release date is November 19, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series X S, and we found no PC date. Wccftech’s roundup says Rockstar moved the game from May 26, 2026 to its current November 19 target. In mid-October 2026, KeenGamer reported that Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson told Famitsu he was confident the game would launch as planned, and said the date had not changed.

What is reported about 30 FPS

Wccftech’s roundup says a performance mode targeting 60 FPS looks unlikely based on Digital Foundry’s analysis of the trailers, and that the trailer footage was confirmed to have been captured on a standard PS5 targeting 1440p at 30 fps. A post circulating on X summarizing claims from a creator who visited Rockstar North says the game runs at 30 fps on PS5, that Rockstar told creators it has no news on a performance mode, and that there is no first-person mode. We treat that as unconfirmed, since it is a secondhand claim and we found no Rockstar statement.

We also found no explanation from Rockstar for the frame rate target, so we do not offer one.

What earlier Rockstar games suggest

  • Red Dead Redemption 2: Push Square wrote in 2025 that the game has never received a current-gen patch and runs on PS5 in backward compatibility at a locked 30 frames per second. A 2026 RDR2 news site lists it as still 30 FPS with no native PS5 version.
  • Red Dead Redemption: Rockstar’s patch 1.03 in October 2023 added an option to run the PS4 port at 60 FPS on PS5 through backward compatibility.
  • GTA V: The same RDR2 site says it received a native PS5 upgrade in March 2022.

So Rockstar has added higher frame rates to some older games after release, but not to RDR2. That gives no reliable basis for predicting a GTA VI performance mode.

PC

Neither Rockstar nor the reports we checked give a PC release date.

Takeaway

Plan for 30 FPS on console at launch, since the evidence points that way, but treat it as unconfirmed until Rockstar says so. Do not expect a performance mode unless Rockstar announces one.
