  • Medium power saving limits background activity and caps performance. It is the sensible choice for a long day away from a charger.
  • Maximum power saving restricts the phone to essential apps and a simplified interface. Use it when the battery is nearly empty.

Background Activity and Permissions

  • Sleeping apps: under Settings → Battery → Background usage limits → Sleeping apps, add apps you only open occasionally so they cannot run in the background.
  • Location: under Settings → Location → App permissions, change non-essential apps from “Allow all the time” to “Allow only while using the app.”
  • Sync: for mailboxes and cloud services you rarely check, switch from push to manual or longer intervals.

Charging Habits That Matter More on This Phone

A charge cycle is counted as 100% of capacity used in total, so two 50% charges count as one cycle. At a 1,200-cycle rating, one full cycle per day reaches 80% capacity in roughly three years, according to Android Authority’s reading of the EU data. Samsung says battery lifespan is consistent with previous Galaxy generations, but that claim has not been tested independently over the long term.

Given that gap between the two claims, these habits are worth adopting:

  • Turn on Battery protection under Settings → Battery and choose the option that limits charging to 80%, especially for overnight charging.
  • Top up in the middle of the day instead of running the battery to zero.
  • Avoid charging while the phone is warm, such as under a pillow or in direct sun.
  • Use the 45W wired charger when speed matters, and wireless charging when convenience matters more than speed.

Multitasking and DeX

Running several windows at once, or using Samsung DeX, keeps the processor busier and drains the battery faster. On a day when the charge matters, keep to two active windows and close DeX when you are done.
